Preliminary Report of Whole Genome Sequencing analysis of 554 samples of SARS CoV-2 Virus between Dec 2020 & May 2021 in Tamil Nadu, shows Delta variant as the most common variant.
The preliminary findings are summarised below.
• Delta variant (B.1.617.2), observed in 386 samples (70%) out of the 554 samples, was the most common, followed by the Alpha (B.1.1.7) variant in 47 samples (8.5%)
• The Delta variant infection was predominantly reported among the adolescents & adults (≥12 years of age) (81%) compared to children (19%)
• The Delta variant was predominantly seen in Community Clusters (30%) and Family Clusters (23%)
• Among the 554 samples, 96 were from children (upto 12 years of age). Among them, 73 (76%) had Delta variant infection.
• Among the 554 samples, 66 were Vaccine breakthrough cases, and among them 55 (83%) were Delta variant.
டிசம்பர் 2020 முதல் மே 2021 வரை தமிழ்நாட்டில் SARS CoV-2 வைரஸின் 554 மாதிரிகள் பற்றிய முழு மரபணு வரிசைமுறை பகுப்பாய்வு செய்ததில் டெல்டா மாறுபாட்டை மிகவும் பொதுவான மாறுபாடாகக் காட்டுகிறது.
