மருத்துவத்துறையில் மகத்தான சேவை : மருத்துவர் மாதங்கி இராமகிருஷ்ணனுக்கு அவ்வையார் விருது

தமிழக அரசு அவ்வையார் விருதுக்கு தேர்வு செய்திருப்பது குறித்து மருத்துவர் மாதங்கி இராமக்கிருஷ்ணனிடம் இன்று (05.03.2014)  பகல் 12.55 மணிக்கு தொலைபேசி மூலம் தொடர்பு கொண்டு பேசினோம்.

துபாயிலிருந்து இன்று தான் சென்னை வந்தேன். தமிழக அரசுக்கு நான் எதுவும் விண்ணப்பிக்காத நிலையிலும் அரசு எனக்கு “அவ்வையார் விருது” வழங்கியிருப்பது மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியாகவும், ஆச்சரியமாகவும் இருக்கிறது. தமிழக அரசு அந்தளவிற்கு என்னை உன்னிப்பாக கவனித்து கௌரவித்துள்ளது. தமிழக முதலமைச்சரை சந்திப்பதற்கு அனுமதி கேட்டுள்ளேன். ஏற்பாடு செய்வதாக அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

நான் அரசாங்க மருத்துவமனைகளில் 28 ஆண்டுகள் பணியாற்றியுள்ளேன். தீ காயங்களினால் அவதிப்படும் குழந்தைகள் மற்றும் நோயாளிகளை நான் ஆரம்பகால முதலே நேசித்து வருகின்றேன். காஞ்சி காமக்கோடி குழந்தைகள் மருத்துவமனையில் ஏழை குழந்தைகளுக்கு மருத்துவ உதவி கிடைப்பதற்கு கருணை உள்ளம் கொண்டவர்கள் உதவி வருகிறார்கள். இச்சேவை  என்றென்றும் தொடரும்.

Dr.Karimpat MATHANGI RAMAKRISHNAN

Prof.Mathangi Ramakrishnan was the former professor and head of the department of burns, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Kilpauk Medical College, India and has the pride of having established the largest (50 bedded) Burn Unit in South India. After Superannuation, she is currently the director of intensive Care Burn Unit at the     K. K. CHILDS Trust Hospital – which is an exclusive Tertiary Care Children’s Hospital Chennai, India.

She had a brilliant academic career at the Madras Medical College, being the best outgoing student and the Jhonstone Gold Medalist, the BLUE RIBBON of the college in 1957 and was judged as the best female medical graduate of the country securing president of India’s medal. She then trained in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery in the United Kingdom and United States and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of England. She then qualified for MCh (Plastic Surgery) in 1968. She obtained PhD in Plastic Surgery in 1979 from the University of Madras. She then became the first plastic surgeon to obtain the DSc from the Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R.Medical University in 1992 for her work on “Nutritional Management in Burns”. She has been honoured with Fellowship Ad Hominem of the Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh. She was honoured with DSC (Honoris Causa) by the Banaras Hindu University for her consistent work in the Rehabilitation of Burn Victims and was awarded by Hon.Shri.Abdul Kalam during the convocation in the year 2006. Her passion has been to look after burnt victims even today, particularly children. She strives hard to save a burnt child. Women with crippled deformities are rehabilitated in several households as domestic help. Day begins with seeing burnt patients and the day ends with collecting donations for them, to rehabilitation.   

She is the recipient of several National and International awards- ARNOTT Lecturer Ship award by the Royal College of surgeon of England, Lifetime achievement award of the National Academy of Burns, Shushrutha award by the Association of plastic Surgeon of India, Shushrutha Gold Medal by the Shushrutha Society of India – Varanasi, the Dr.B.C.Roy Gold Medal for starting the specialty of Burns, HARI OM ASHRAM AWARD of the Association of Surgeons of India, and the PADAMASHRI from the Government of India.

 She has published more than 82 publications in peer reviewed journals and has authored three books on Burns and Several book chapters.
